Chile supplement unlikely to help dieters burn fat

Bad news for dieters: a new study has found that a chemical found in chilies touted as a weight loss may not help as much as the manufacturer wants people to think. Skip related contentThe chemical called dihydrocapsiate, is "a great tool for weight management," said Jun Tashiro on Japanese food maker Ajinomoto, that the dietary supplement Capsiate Natura produces.

But researchers found the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, no change in body weight and an increase of only 50 more calories burned per day after people took a pill that with the chemical.

Scientists and nutritionists have been interested in dihydrocapsiate as a dietary supplement because it is closely related to capsaicin, the compound that produces a burning sensation when diners chilli peppers or spicy food.

While capsaicin is already shown to help raise metabolism, but because of the extremely hot taste, the less tantalizing dihydrocapsiate can offer an alternative.

Ajinomoto the recommended daily dose of Capsiate Natura, which is available only in the United States by doctors, 3 mg dihydrocapsiate contains.

That's the equivalent of 10 cayenne peppers, Tashiro said that most people can't eat because it disrupts their stomachs or they don't like the taste.

Researcher Eric Ravussin said his findings suggest that the effect of dihydrocapsiate is negligible.
Researchers gave 78 healthy men a pill with 0, 3, or 9 mg of the connection once a day for 4 weeks.
They found no change in body weight and only about 50 more calories burned per day instead of the 75 calories they had chosen as a target.

Ravussin noted that weight loss, by means of exercise or change of diet, to a lower metabolism since leads you want to move less weight, your body needs less calories per day.
"Taking this as a supplement might be helpful, but not very relevant for weight loss General," told Ravussin Reuters Health.
